Adult education, self-taught, life experience, etc. Whatever you want to call it, when adults have the desire to learn something, they will usually find a way.
Enter a parent who chooses to educate their child(ren) themselves at home.
Did you know that most (not all, but most) parents who choose to homeschool their children will end up learning right alongside them? Especially parents who take teaching their children seriously.
Since home educating your child is not strictly (or even remotely) 100% dependent on what you as the parent knows, and because we have a HUGE selection of curriculum from hundreds of companies to choose from, homeschooling actually means a continuing education for the parent as well.
We are NOT limited to only what we know or were taught by our teachers (or remember from our years in school). The homeschooled child is NOT only as smart as the mother who teaches him.
In fact, most of the curriculum choices we have at our disposal are very self-explanatory and include very thorough teacher’s guides. We are not doing this whole “teaching thing” on our own.
For many, this is simply the icing on the already deliciously frosted (with real buttercream frosting) cake of homeschooling. For others, it is like sand in their mouth and their head wants to explode thinking about it. Usually, if you give it a chance, you will end up enjoying both teaching and learning at home.
I want to share all of the ways I have enjoyed continuing education as a homeschool mom. I share my education story, how I have pursued education as an adult, and more!
