I am sharing this (short) reading list for Christian marriage because these books are worth mentioning. However, some things simply must be learned through experience and I feel that a joyful, strong marriage is one of those things.

The most important things a marriage needs to last “forever” is Jesus and commitment. Always, forever, and no matter what. I believe that a talk with a wise Christian or two – whose desire is to build up your marriage in the Lord and point you both back to Jesus (and not take sides or point fingers) – when your marriage is struggling can be beneficial, especially if the husband & wife do it together.

A book written by Christians can work in the same way. Learning that others understand and that maybe you/your spouse/your marriage isn’t so weird, after all, is comforting. But, humans are not perfect and what they write is not perfect, so always weigh it against the Word of God before taking it to heart or applying it to your life! The Bible is the only truth and others’ opinions and experiences cannot be held higher than God’s Word! Also, put your husband’s thoughts, opinions, beliefs, and wishes before any and every book you read (besides the Bible).

No doubt, the Bible has been my (our) greatest help in our marriage’s darkest times. Besides the Bible, there have been a couple of books that have encouraged me or challenged me to be a better wife, so I do know that books can be helpful.

Books that encouraged me to dig deeper into God’s Word to learn the truth about biblical marriage. Like I said, always weigh man’s word against God’s Word before applying it to your life.
