I have decided to choose prayer and scriptures to focus on in the new year instead of choosing “one word” like I used to. For many years I chose One Word for the year to share publicly and meditate on.
Grab your FREE printable Prayer & Scripture to meditate on for the New Year pack below! You can read my One Word posts for 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2017.
You see a glimpse of our family’s journey in those posts (and some of my older ugly graphics that need updating, lol). I personally like to read those posts and reflect on God’s mercies and faithfulness! He is so good!
It is also a brief record of my faith journey. The Lord has kept me humble, that’s for sure.
Prayer and Scriptures To Meditate On For The New Year With FREE Printable
I have been pondering what word I will meditate on in the new year. I considered faith, hope, trust … I know I will need all of those as we face a year of unknowns and are filled with hopes for what this new year may bring to us!
After (almost) seven years in this 1000sqft rental house, we will finally be searching for our mini-farm and a home of our own. Acreage and a bigger house are both on the wish list. (Update as of 2019 we found our home in the country! Read all about it HERE)
We must have faith and trust that God knows what is best for us. Regardless of where we live.
I considered the word delight and scripture… “Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” (Psalm 37:4)
Contrary to some popular beliefs, I don’t believe this scripture is a promise that we will get whatever we carnally desire, but rather a promise that if we delight in the Lord, our hearts will desire whatever it is that the Lord wants for us.
(For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. Romans 8:6-8)
In fact, all of Psalm 37 was a great reminder to me that keeping my focus on the Lord and His Truths will keep my heart aligned with His will.
I am not sure any “one word” can sum up the thoughts, feelings, prayers, hopes, fears, and thankfulness that is bombarding my heart and mind as we go into the new year. Our God is bigger than all of that and I know my faith journey cannot be limited to just one word.
Instead of One Word, I am choosing scriptures to meditate on for the new year. I really think just studying God’s Word every day is best!
Scriptures To Meditate On For The New Year
I have chosen a portion of Proverbs 16 as my scriptures to meditate on for the new year. It reminds me to keep my priorities in order.
“The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord.
All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the spirits.
Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.
The Lord hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.
When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.
A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.” verses 1-9
Despite all that my flesh desires or thinks is best, my spirit knows that God’s will IS best. And I’ve learned to end every prayer with “not my will, but thy will be done, Lord”.
So, while we step out in faith this new year and seek a home to call our own, we do so both boldly and humbly. We will walk through each and every door that God opens … and walk away from every door that He closes.
And, we will walk in faith. Knowing that He will direct our steps and provide all that we need.
To be honest, it will take a small miracle for us to find the “perfect for us” mini farm with a handicap accessible house – all for a price we can afford in the county we were born & raised in, but I am excited to see how God works it all out. In His time.
I know that He may say “not yet” or “I have something else in mind” in regards to our land search. But, whether it’s finding a new home, medical issues, or any other number of challenges that we will face in the next 12-months, I know that God will carry us through whatever is to come – as He always has!
My prayer for the new year is this:
“Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.” Philippians 4:4-9
