Planning a structured summer of flexibility may seem like an oxymoron, but hear me out. A structured summer is a loose schedule that keeps your day flowing smoothly and keeps everyone productive, but allows for flexibility and relaxation.
Structure definition: manner of organization.
Flexibility definition: the quality of yielding to arguments, persuasion, or circumstances.
In other words, you can make a plan shaped by the circumstances (summer vacation) and input (persuasion) of your family.
The idea is to keep a meaningful summer routine in place, lightly outlined. You will plan your days ahead of time with plenty of margin for fun.
My free printable planner will guide you through the process! You can have it hanging on the fridge for the entire family to see and follow along.
Structured Summer of Flexibility Benefits

- helps everyone stay productive
- keeps the household chores in mind, so the home continues running smoothly
- brings peace and security since predictability reduces stress

- allows you to stay home and still enjoy the summer, if that’s what you want
- centers around the family unit, giving everyone precious time together
- gives opportunities for learning to continue
- limits mindless screentime
- and so much more!
We stay home for most of the summer and work together on our little farm. The garden is producing an abundance to harvest and preserve, so that keeps me busy. The children have their pre-planned routines, lists of activities, and things they are allowed to do in their free time, so I am not answering questions constantly. These are the benefits I have experienced from developing a structured summer of flexibility!
