Math Help For The Whole Family

My experience with math as an adult has helped me realize that my children need many opportunities to practice their math skills, or they will regress. When we take breaks from homeschooling, they may forget much of the math they were taught. I always have them spend a few weeks at the start of each school year doing review, but it is even better when they do not require much review because they have been staying on top of their math game.

Requiring them to do math lessons or use textbooks daily (especially while on a break from school) is not my preference, so I encourage other ways for them to use their math skills. I let them engage in activities that promote practical life skills like baking in the kitchen and building in the shop, but I also let them use Mathseeds on the computer.

In addition to using home management skills like budgeting and finance, I use math in everyday life via cooking, baking, and more, but I also use Mathseeds to help me solve math problems easily. Yes, I am an adult and play cool math games on Mathseeds! Like I said, it is a tool the whole family can use!

There are many ways to learn math in Mathseeds! Within the child’s profile, they are an “acorn” character who plays games under a few categories, such as Mental Math, Driving Tests, Arcade, and other games. The games cover math facts, colors, shapes, and more. The child can earn “acorns” and spend them to play games or at a store to furnish and decorate a treehouse. It is all a lot of fun for my children.

But, it is not all fun and games! For more formal math lessons, you will have your child take a placement test or start at the beginning of the program. The math curriculum starts with basic numeral recognition and counting. It advances to multiplication and division. It is very interactive and engaging. Completing the math tasks and lessons is how the student earns “acorns” to “spend” on fun and games, so it is a great incentive for the student!
