I am on the Trim Healthy Mama Plan which means that I separate my carbs and fats for most meals and snacks. Since Thanksgiving is centered around a fatty turkey, I want to eat satisfying fat – instead of high carb – side dishes.
It takes a little planning ahead at first, but I am now so used to eating this way that it is easy to make food for me while making food for my family. The Trim Healthy Table Cookbook is full of many options for Thanksgiving, too… but for the sake of ease, I am linking to recipes found online.
My husband is also mostly gluten-free and these work for him, too. I use the Trim Healthy Mama Baking Blend, Sweeteners, and more. You can make an entire low-carb Thanksgiving meal Trim Healthy Mama friendly without sacrificing flavor!
Low-Carb Thanksgiving (Gluten-Free Options)
Turkey – You can make the turkey like usual since it is low-carb!
Roasted Acorn Squash – Roast squash following these instructions, minus the brown sugar (and just use butter or no oil at all). When done, scoop out the squash and mash with a fork. Mix in butter, a little plain Greek yogurt, and salt & pepper and then use like mashed potatoes. Or, stuff the acorn squash with the dressing recipe below instead!
Mashed Cauliflower – If you don’t want to use squash, then this cauliflower mash is a great option.
Stuffing / Dressing – Make a THM & gluten-free version using this bread recipe. I will use this stuffing recipe as a base since I love apples, raisins, cranberries in my stuffing, but will go very light on all three to keep it low carb.
Salad Dressing – This French dressing is delicious and can be made THM-friendly by using a sugar-free ketchup and my homemade “truvia“ instead of sugar. If you want Ranch dressing, then use this one but use plain Greek yogurt in place of the sour cream.
Cranberry Sauce – This looks like an amazing sugar-free recipe that can be served with the main meal or used in other recipes.
Bread – This recipe is a great one for low-carb and uses “regular” bread ingredients. It can probably be made into rolls, too. I am going to try them in a muffin tin for easy buns.
Green Bean Casserole – Another recipe that looks so good! I can’t wait to make it this Thanksgiving.
Brussels Sprouts – I love them slightly blackened, so this recipe sounds perfect.
Pumpkin Desserts – I prefer pumpkin bread, cake, muffins, and cookies over pie. Use whipped, sweetened butter or whipped cream to top it off!
