HABIT, noun [Latin habitus, from habeo, to have to hold.] A disposition or condition of the mind or body acquired by custom or a frequent repetition of the same act. habit is that which is held or retained, the effect of custom or frequent repetition. Hence, we speak of good habits and bad habits.
CULTIVATE, verb transitive [Latin , to till, to dwell.] To improve by labor or study; to advance the growth of; to refine and improve by correction of faults, and enlargement of powers or good qualities; as, to cultivate talents; to cultivate a taste for poetry. To study; to labor to improve or advance; as, to cultivate philosophy; to cultivate the mind. To cherish; to foster; to labor to promote and increase, as to cultivate the love of excellence; to cultivate gracious affections.

Habits to Cultivate in the New Year
- Read 1 chapter of the Bible every day.
- Create + follow a household chores chart that makes sense for your family’s routine to cultivate a peaceful home.
- Go to bed by 9 pm.
- Read out loud to your children daily.
- Wake up by 6 am.
- Walk 1 mile every day.
- Cut out added sugar. (learn about a low glycemic diet HERE).
- Eat a salad for lunch more often than not.
- Eat 20+grams of protein 4-5 x daily.
- Eat healthy carbs (soured/sprouted whole wheat, etc.).
- Cut out seed oils.
- Start with single ingredients/cook from scratch.
- Learn to make homemade bread.
- Drink enough water (start the day with lemon/mineral salt water).
- Learn to make homemade yogurt.
- Cut down on coffee/caffeine.
- Eat healthy fats, such as butter, coconut/olive/avocado oils, as well as tallow.
- Cut out artificial dyes + preservatives.
- Dedicate 15min daily to quiet time: journaling, reading, etc.
- Start a garden (herbs, veggies, flowers).
- Learn a new life skill (preserving food, sewing, etc.).

Another Way To Cultivate Habits in the New Year
Choose 4 habits to embrace for the entire year. Focus on one for three months, then add another to focus on for the next three months, and so on. By the end of the year, you will be the master of 4 new good habits!

My goals for the new year are to read through my TBR nonfiction books (starting with Mother Culture) while riding the stationary exercise bike for 15 minutes daily. Two goals accomplished in one time slot – yay!
