To avoid participating in the (pagan-originated) Easter bunny and egg baskets, I stopped giving Easter baskets to my children for several years.
But that changed when I realized we should remember this Holy Week with reverence and teach our children about the greatest gift to mankind.
I was convicted that Jesus Christ’s crucifixion, death, burial, and resurrection are too important to let unbelievers ruin.
We give because He gave. We love because He loves.
So, we started giving our children “Easter gifts” – usually without the baskets (there is nothing wrong with baskets). And, often a single item per child (mostly due to budget restraints).
Easter Baskets for Christian Children
Over time, it became a tradition in our home to give a book they could enjoy together.
At first, it was whatever book I could find (last-minute) at the local store – usually, a National Geographic activity book for kids. When shopping online became so convenient, I started ordering books on Holy Week and/or Christianity.
Magazine subscriptions are great options, too. These two are Christian-based, so they are perfect for Easter.
