3 Ways To Save On Homeschool Curriculum
- Buy the curriculum during sales. That may seem obvious, but in reality, it can be hard to catch the curriculum you want on sale. My tip is this: look for sales in April, July, and during Black Friday/Cyber Monday. Almost every homeschool company has sales at these times each year. Sign up for their newsletters to be notified when they offer a sale. MasterBooks usually has a great sale for the month of April. Visit them HERE.
- Buy a non-consumable curriculum. Many curricula can be reused year after year and are perfect for large families. They may cost a little more money upfront, but are cheaper in the long term. Some examples of this – and ones I have experience with – are Tapestry of Grace and Compass Classroom (most consumable worksheets can be printed at home). Another great one that falls in this category is Life of Fred Math; you just need to supply notebook paper to work out the problems!
- Buy a multi-level curriculum. These are programs that provide lessons for multiple levels so your entire family can learn together from one foundational text. Tapestry of Grace is an example of this affordable option for homeschooling more than one child since it includes the lessons needed for every grade. Tapestry of Grace covers history first and foremost, but it also covers geography, social studies, writing, grammar, government, and literature.

Aside from the tips above that can be applied to most curricula, I also recommend trying digital options. You can find affordable options year-round, but there are also sales.
Whether you buy a bundle with a variety of resources (great for filling in the gaps, giving the children something to work on during vacations, and a way to try new curriculum without investing much money) or you purchase a lifetime membership to NoteBookingPages to get everything in one place, you can benefit from printable worksheets!
NoteBookingPages has a wealth of information on how to utilize their printable worksheets for all grades and subjects. You can even get access to a huge resource library for free.
Now, my number one tip that has helped me save the most money on homeschooling several children for many years is to only buy textbooks for the foundational subjects: math and language arts, especially in the elementary years! For all other subjects, you can simply teach through literature/living books borrowed from the library for free and hands-on, real-life experiences.
