When my oldest was preparing to enter high school, we planned out four years of studies and courses. It was great to get our thoughts and hopes on paper, but homeschool high school in real life ended up looking a little bit different for my eldest.
I’m glad I mapped out our expectations, goals, and resources, though! I have revisited the outline over the last few years and, as my son enters his last year of school, I am satisfied with his academic accomplishments.
Homeschool High School in Real Life
This is a retrospect outline of our high school years. What we did for grades 9, 10, and 11 – and what we have planned (and purchased) for 12th-grade.
While he has core textbooks for each major subject (and they are fleshed out with real-life experiences), other subjects have been learned through hands-on opportunities. Real-life skills are necessary and have always been the main focus of our homeschool.
Homesteading for the last few years has definitely been a bonus since it naturally provides exercises in physical labor, work ethic, homeEc, responsibility, and so much more. Homeschooling and homesteading have been a blessing to our relationships, too, as we learn, work, and live together.
The specific curricula we used are listed after the general outline/transcript.
