My 7-year-old daughter had been asking a lot of questions about how babies are made, pregnancy, etc. I was answering them the best I could, but I was lacking an eloquent way to really explain it without giving her more info than she needed at this young age. Wonderfully Made: God’s Story of Life from Conception to Birth” has been the perfect solution for how to share this delicate & beautiful topic with my children. This book is geared towards ages 5-11, and I think that is very accurate, but even my toddlers enjoyed the book since the artwork is very delightful to look at, the storyline is interesting to read, and it is fun for toddlers to listen to.

Wonderfully Made – The Story of Conception to Birth Explained To Children

It gently introduces the story of life by sharing the commitment between a husband and wife, and how God gave them a special way to join together and show their love for each other by creating a baby. I liked how this part was worded, and it fit naturally with the rest of the book.

Then you go through each week of gestation with stunning artwork and scientific facts about the baby’s growth from conception to birth. Appropriate scriptures are referenced throughout. At the end, the Gospel is proclaimed in a gentle and honest way.

My Thoughts

I truly love this book! It is a mother’s love story to her child, God’s love story to us. A short and easy read that flows poetically and beautifully. It is a meaningful story.

The information about each stage of gestation and the beautiful artwork really touched me. It was so bittersweet to see the realistic pictures and the info for the baby at 24-25 weeks, since that it when my Elijah was born and died. So precious is the life of a baby!

Though this is meant to be a children’s book (and it is perfect as one), I think that this is a great gift for a first-time pregnant mama. Not all women understand the process from conception to birth (I didn’t fully understand with my first pregnancy), and this is full of beautiful artwork and relatable descriptions!

This book is perfect for Christian families with young children or mamas expecting a baby. It is important to teach children about the miracle of birth, and this book fills that role wonderfully.

Some people ask, “Why doesn’t God perform the great miracles like He did in the Bible?”. He does, friends. Every conception, pregnancy, and birth of a child is a modern-day miracle. It is so important to teach our children about the miracle of birth, especially their own birth.

I have experienced the beauty of pregnancy and childbirth 8 times. Even when some of my children were born with less than perfect bodies (according to the world’s standards) with a lifetime of medical needs ahead, and even when my son died in my arms just 88 minutes after his birth, I still knew that we had experienced a miracle that can only be performed by the hand of God.

The Miracle of Birth (no matter what!)

My oldest daughter was fully disabled and chronically ill. Since she was a newborn, we knew something was different. However, I still believed that she had been fearfully and wonderfully made by our Lord. I knew that He still had a perfect plan for her life. She has been a beautiful blessing to our family for over nine years now!

Our 5th child was born prematurely (at 25 weeks of gestation) with kidney failure. He was perfectly beautiful, and part of me went with him to Heaven that day. Praise God that I do not mourn like those without hope. Though he will never come back to me, I will go to him one day!

Now, our youngest child appears to have the same condition as his oldest sister. He brings us SO much joy! I am so thankful that God knows exactly what we need.
