There are several reasons why I may recommend that you Outsource Homeschool to someone other than yourself. I know that seems to go against everything I usually advocate for, but hear me out.

When to Outsource Homeschool

• You do not have the personal knowledge to teach on the topic. * For example, I am not a math person. Once my children reach middle school, I no longer feel confident in my ability to teach them math. I “hire” that subject out using the Teaching Textbooks digital course from 8th grade through high school levels. The same goes for teaching music/piano – I hire that out!

Speaking of Teaching Textbooks, I definitely recommend them, especially for upper levels of math. They make homeschooling so much easier – my older children just log on and work through their math lesson with little to no help from me while I am teaching the younger children –  and then I get an email the next day letting me know which lesson(s) they completed and the grade they got. • You are in a busy season of life with pregnancies and babies. * If you are in the middle of having babies (and all that comes with that), you know that life is chaotic even while wonderful. Or perhaps you are caring for aging parents. Extra help in the homeschool department is a blessing in either scenario.
• You are in a transition year. * If you are selling your home/moving, your husband is changing careers, or there is some other major life change coming in the next school year, then taking an easier approach to homeschooling for the transition is smart.
• You have a large family. * Children in high school and children in preschool, plus children in between, are a good reason to outsource some subjects in your homeschool. Let the older children work independently via online help while you focus on teaching the younger ones.
• You have a chronic illness. * If you, your spouse, or your children suffer from chronic illness, then you know how much of a blessing it is to have access to online programs that you can use even in bed or on the couch if needed. Even better when the curriculum covers everything from teaching concepts to grading the lessons!
• You are a single parent. Or you are a military spouse, and your husband is deployed. Either way, outsourcing part of your homeschool will relieve the burden you would otherwise carry alone.
• You want more time for other things. * If you want to embrace a lifestyle of learning together with your children through real-life experiences, then you do not want to spend most of your day at a desk working through textbooks. Streamline the process of teaching the most important subjects, like math, by allowing your child to be taught by someone else when it is most convenient for your family’s schedule.
• You are traveling. If you are living in an RV and/or traveling with your family, then having some homeschool subjects that require only a device and the internet is simpler than needing all of the physical textbooks. This applies to when you live in an RV while building a new house, too! Tiny homes call for special considerations.

As you can see, there are some really great reasons to outsource homeschool subjects. The main subject I have personally outsourced since my oldest child started 8th grade has been math via Teaching Textbooks. 

My oldest son used Teaching Textbooks through high school, and my daughter is currently using them for pre-algebra. My son never struggled with math, and he enjoyed it for their common-sense approach to problems … on the other hand, my daughter has always struggled with math, and she also enjoys it for the ability to watch/listen to the lecture more than once to really absorb the information.

My children feel that the concepts are explained clearly, and they like that they are given hints when needed when using Teaching Textbooks – I think that the multi-sensory experience really helps since they can read text, watch demos, and listen to the information as needed. As a Homeschool Mom, I like that math is being taught and graded for me – Thank you, TT!

In our 5th year of using them, knowing that my children are being taught math with Teaching Textbooks lifts a burden off of me. The peace of mind I feel is very notable.

The main thing I remind myself of is that, while it is solely my responsibility to educate my children, I can – and should – utilize resources that are available to help me in that endeavor.
