I am not a crafty mom, and I do not enjoy doing hands-on projects, but my children are very creative. These easy crafts kids can do independently are inventions of my own children’s imaginations.

A great time for children to be encouraged to do craft projects (if they don’t think of it on their own) is during times when the weather (or some other circumstance) makes going outside not possible. Instead of screen time, suggest these fun crafts!

These crafts double as homemade toys and gifts for Christmas, etc.! Kids will get to create them AND play with them!

With a little free time, supplies, and permission, kids can come up with some really neat/cute crafts. It occurred to me that the projects my children have completed (and play with for hours on end) are worth compiling into an article to benefit other parents seeking easy crafts kids can do alone.

Another great thing about the following crafts is that they do not create a lot of mess, and no glue or glitter is needed. These are really simple project ideas; your children may create their own versions/spin-offs based on the pictures included.

These are also great for homemade gifts. Since children have fun making them and playing with them, gifting them to their friends makes sense.

Easy Crafts Kids Can Do Independently

Sock People

These cute little stuffies / sock buddies are created from socks that have lost their mates or have a hole in them. They are stuffed with cloth scraps, pillow filling, or anything soft, like an old shirt that a child outgrew or was stained/holey.

Use a marker to draw faces and clothes. Tie the open end to close it (creating a hair tuft/ponytail or a hat when folded down) and use a stapler, needle+thread, or another simple tied knot to close any holes.

Other socks can be used as removable clothing, hats, or scarves. These become bedtime cuddle friends, too!

Stick People

Draw faces/clothes/designs on popsicle sticks or craft sticks to create people and pets! SO easy but a lot of hours of play come from it in my home.

The sticks can be cut to create smaller sizes of people or animals. Use a pencil, markers, or lots of colors to make unique stick people or pets.

Toilet Paper Roll People

Once again, an easy project that is almost too simple to be called a craft. However, my kids love collecting empty toilet paper rolls to create little people.

They draw faces/clothes on them with markers, cut them to make them shorter, and put one inside of another to make them taller!

Crafts Kids Can Do Independently are some of my favorites as a busy mom of several children. I just make sure to have basic art supplies like markers and scissors on hand for when they want to create!
