I am sharing our Middle School + High School Homeschool Curriculum for the upcoming school year. We are fairly relaxed and eclectic, with a mix of structure and routine, and we embrace more than one method, like Charlotte Mason and textbooks. If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments. I love helping moms homeschool their children.

To start, let me share the grades my children are entering. I have a child entering grade 11/12 (she hopes to combine and complete both levels over 18 months), a child entering grade 10, a child entering grade 8, and a child entering grade 7. I also have Jubal, who has global developmental delays and is at a preschool level.

Middle School + High School Homeschool Curriculum

Language Arts

Math

middle school students are using the Principles of Mathematics book 1 from Master Books.
high school students are using POM 2 and Consumer Math from Master Books.

History

middle school students are using Tapestry of Grace living history books.
high school students are using ToG living history books and World History textbooks from Master Books.

Science

middle school students are using Applied Engineering and General Science from Master Books. We are using an insect model building kit and a science experiment kit to go along with these textbooks.
high school students are using Survey of Science History & Concepts from Master Books.

As you can tell, we use Master Books as our primary source of curriculum. We do add classic literature/missionary biographies from Generations and electives from Compass Classroom occasionally. All other subjects will be taught through a lifestyle of learning, hands-on experiences, and a variety of resources.

Alternative Kinds of Homeschool Curriculum

Each year, my children in high school grades 9-11 choose an “extra subject” (elective). We have our seniors choose a large project or interest to pursue for their last year of school. So, two of my children will have extra subjects/senior year project to focus on.

Our senior is hoping and dreaming about getting a puppy to raise and train as her senior year project. We are not sure whether that will work out, yet. She may do an online course in natural health instead. For now, she is focusing on learning all she can about training dogs using books like this one.

Our son is entering grade 10, and he will most likely choose something to do with mechanics or building for his extra project (like this engine kit). We have not decided exactly what it will be yet.

As always, all of our children are involved in our everyday life skills and experiences. We have some farm animals and gardens to keep us all busy, and we spend a lot of time in the kitchen cooking/baking.

To recap … we use Master Books, Generations, and Compass Classroom most often.
