Advent Word Study

Advent - a word study to celebrate the coming of Jesus Christ

Will you join me in an advent word study series? We will be studying words that lead us to Jesus and are an encouragement to women – moms and homemakers!

This series starts today with the word Advent (below)! The entire Biblical Word Study series is linked below. Some of the words in this series will be specifically related to Christmas – all will be centered around Jesus. Sort of an Advent to Christmas series, but will be applicable any time of the year – read in any order!

1 Chronicles 22:18-19

Is not the Lord your God with you? and hath he not given you rest on every side? for he hath given the inhabitants of the land into mine hand; and the land is subdued before the Lord, and before his people.

Now set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of the Lord God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the Lord.

Advent Word Study

AD’VENT, noun [Latin adventus, from advenio, of ad and venio, to come.] A coming; appropriately the coming of our Savior, and in the calendar, it includes four sabbaths before Christmas, beginning of St. Andrew’s Day, or on the sabbath next before or after it. It is intended as a season of devotion, with reference to the coming of Christ in the flesh, and his second coming to judge the world. [source]

Scripture To Study:

“I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ;

That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge; Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:

So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus ChristWho shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:4-9

Advent is most often celebrated during the Christmas Season, and rightly so. It is always good to point ourselves and our families back towards Jesus.

Taking a month to read scriptures, do activities, and read other books in anticipation of Christ’s first coming is wonderful! I plan to use this book to start our Advent journey with my kids.

But, in reality, Advent should be a state of mind that all Christians live in.

The second coming of Christ is something that we should look forward to… for it is what is to come.

Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” 1 Thessalonians 4:17

I pray that God will continuously turn my heart towards Jesus and that looking forward to the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ will spill over into my everyday life and influence my thoughts and actions!

More About The Advent / Word Study Series

I am doing this series of word studies because I often need to be reminded to see God’s presence in our everyday lives and of His many promises to be with us always.

Jesus should be our focus, the purpose behind all we do, the reason we continue on, the prize at the end of our race… What is to come.

All of us are in His all-knowing, all-powerful hands. We must take the time to be intentional in our study of the Bible, to know Jesus & praise Him for the freedom to do so.

We must seek & love the Lord with all of our hearts & souls. We must endeavor to build our homes & raise our children on His truths.

May Jesus be glorified in our lives, on this blog, and through this series!

  1. Greetings and Blessings to All. Good Morning and thank you for continual learning and blessings. Prayers for a Bountiful Advent and Christmas 2016.

  2. Winning will bless my family by allowing us to buy the things that we really need now. Thank you so much for the chance.

  3. It will help, because I sure could use it. I don’t feel the need to tell everyone some sad story. That’s not in my nature. I do have a rescue shelter for elderly cats, and that can get quite costly.

  4. It will bless our family by giving us the money to do for the kids and to have a great meal on Christmas! Thank you for the chance and bless you all for doing it!

  5. Thank you for the chance to win this. It would be a blessing to us to help pay bills and also help me with starting THM. God Bless

  6. We are elderly and been forced to move as I am beginning my second round of chemo treatments. The place we are moving from had an old washing machine in it, but it will stay here. $500 would allow us to buy not only a machine for the place we are moving into, but some other small things we need also like window drapes. It would truly be a huge blessing for us. Thank you for participating in this giveaway. God bless you.

  7. Winning the giveaway would help us pay utility bills this month (December/January are slow work months).

Thanks for hosting the giveaway, and for your lovely blog posts. I always enjoy reading them 🙂

  8. How will winning this giveaway bless your family?

We would use the funds to select additional children to sponsor from our local angel tree. My husband and I love teaching our children about giving back to those around us.

  9. It would allow us to breathe a bit easier, things are tight right now but I know we always land on our feet. And when things are tight, it lets us understand what a blessing gifts are when they do happen.

  10. This is such a good idea. A friend is loaning me Jotham’s Journey this year to start with my boys.
I would like to get my mother some kitchen equipment this year. She has done without much for so long, I think she deserves something nice.

  11. IF I was to win this, I would gift this to my sister and her family. This would Belsen them so much, and help them out as they navigate through a financial hardships!

  12. If I won, we would be able to repair our truck, which my husband uses for work. It would certainly help him make more deliveries. We would be so grateful! 🙂

  13. Our family has not only two-legged, but four-legged members. Our cat, Moko, is sick and needs a procedure that costs $1300 – possibly more. This would be a godsend as we could put it towards her medical bills and get her well.

  14. We don’t have money for gifts this year, so this would mean the kids could get presents AND we could donate to the local food bank / angel tree as well 🙂

  15. I’m on disability due to MS (and now also have other autoimmune illnesses), so my budget is extremely tight, but I make it. I have 2 sons–the older one has a family and 2 young children and the younger one is in grad school. I would make generous gifts to them and also give some to charity–a generous amount. I’ve been helped by various charities and churches over the 20-plus yrs. I’ve been dealing w/ all of this, and I hate that I can’t pay it forward much. When I worked and had plenty of money, my now-ex husband and I were able to be generous giving to others, but it really hurts not to be able to continue to do that and to have to be the “poor one” now.

  16. Winning would be a big blessing to us & our children & let us in turn bless other families. Thank you for this giveaway! What a wonderful idea!

  17. Winning will bless my family by allowing us to buy a few small extra gift’s and save some money for a rainy day!!!!

  18. We would be able to give significantly more to those in need here in our area (we are near the TN fires). The girls are old enough to at least somewhat understand the damage, and giving to those in need would show them how we are to respond.

  19. I am a Nazarene, and my church is doing Advent for the first time. Interesting. Thanks for the info and the chance to win some holiday cash.

  20. It would give us what we need to put a down payment on a vehicle that the whole family can get into comfortably without having to be on top of each other and have piece of mind having a reliable vehicle!

  21. It would greatly bless our family to put toward bills. We have custody of two of my great nieces and things get very tight at times. We are blessed to have each other and even tho I wish things were differently for them, I’m thankful they are here with us.

  22. To a Christian, the word “advent” signals the coming of a special remembrance concerning God. Though we should always be “ready”, daily life has a way of highjacking moments we have set aside to be at the Lord’s feet. By purposefully preparing our thoughts, hearts and spiritual walk as we head towards a holy celebration, the advent weeks help us peel away the worldly fog that covers the clarity of our soul. Then, and only then, can we feel the fullness of that celebration and offer up right reverence toward what it stands for.

  23. We recently lost all of our household items while in storage waiting to move. They didn’t tell us their roof leaked and our stuff ended covered in mold. We had insurance but it didn’t even cover close to enough to replace all of our items. So we have a lot we need to live and can’t afford to get it all. This would help go towards replacing the basics we really need.

  24. Winning would bless my family by allowing me to make getting my mom here to spend the holidays with us a lot easier on her. We all look forward to her spending a week or two with us and just enjoying her company.

  25. Winning this would provide the rest of the money needed for bills, and to buy my wife some small thing for Christmas. I have not been able to buy her a gift in almost 15 years and she deserves SO much more 🙁

I pray for many blessings to all who are sponsoring/entering this giveaway!

  26. I always seem to be busy around this month – even when, like this year, we aren’t actually buying a bunch of presents but only for our kiddos and some stocking stuffers. I’m only beginning to delve into what the Advent really is but I can’t wait to share it with my children.

  27. We love Advent. It’s the time of year that I am the most focused on Christ. Thanks for the post and the chance to win
