from birth to the year of her death
Abigail Rose is the eldest daughter of Joey and Clarissa West. She has one older brother, two younger sisters, and four younger brothers.
Abi was born with complex medical conditions and was diagnosed at 22 months old with an unspecified mitochondrial disorder, which is a terminal illness. Through postmortem genetic testing, Abigail was diagnosed with methemoglobinemia type 2 in 2025, and the mitochondrial disorder became secondary. She lived with profound disabilities and medical needs but brought blessings and joy to all she met … most brightly to her mom, dad, and siblings.
Even though she could not talk or walk, every smile, giggle, laugh, amused scowl, and expression she gave us was a gift that filled our hearts to overflowing. She was an example of Christ’s Spirit and taught us about faith, hope, love, and contentment.

Clarissa and Abigail on Abigail’s 14th birthday. 2020.
She loved being surrounded by her mom, dad, and siblings at home best of all. She loved being sung to and read to. She loved the silly antics and loud commotions of life being lived around her. Her life filled the home with a purpose.
She was daddy’s girl, mama’s sunshine, and everyone’s joy. She was tremendously brave and strong throughout her pain and suffering. We praise God for Jesus and the hope we have in Him as we look forward to the Reunion Day.

“…weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. … Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness; to the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.” Psalm 30:5, 11, 12
Abigail is survived by her parents, Joey and Clarissa West; brothers Josiah, Marcus, Olympas, and Jubal; and sisters Hadassah and Cyrene.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Nancy, and baby brother, Elijah O’Neil. Funeral Services and Burial were on July 20, 2021.

I remember all the kind things you said about Abigail in your email newsletter since at least summer of 2020. It sounds like she had a very loving home on earth and had quality time with you all right by her side through every moment, good and bad. I look forward to meeting her in her new heavenly body. This made me cry because I am a momma and can’t imagine going through what you have, Clarissa. Thank you so much for sharing.
