Some of the words in this series will be specifically related to Christmas – all will be centered around Jesus. Sort of an Advent to Christmas series, but will be applicable any time of the year – read in any order!
1 Chronicles 22:18-19
Is not the Lord your God with you? and hath he not given you rest on every side? for he hath given the inhabitants of the land into mine hand; and the land is subdued before the Lord, and before his people.
Now set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of the Lord God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the Lord.
Advent – Biblical Word Study
Definition:
AD’VENT, noun [Latin adventus, from advenio, of ad and venio, to come.] A coming; appropriately the coming of our Savior, and in the calendar, it includes four sabbaths before Christmas, beginning of St. Andrew’s Day, or on the sabbath next before or after it. It is intended as a season of devotion, with reference to the coming of Christ in the flesh, and his second coming to judge the world. Scripture To Study & Thoughts To Ponder
“I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ;
That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge; Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:
So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:4-9
Advent is most often celebrated during the Christmas Season, and rightly so. It is always good to point ourselves and our families back towards Jesus.
Taking a month to read scriptures, do activities, and read other books in anticipation of Christ’s first coming is wonderful! I plan to use this book to start our Advent journey with my kids.
But, in reality, Advent should be a state of mind that all Christians live in.
The second coming of Christ is something that we should look forward to… for it is what is to come.
“Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” 1 Thessalonians 4:17
I pray that God will continuously turn my heart towards Jesus and that looking forward to the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ will spill over into my everyday life and influence my thoughts and actions!
Jesus should be our focus, the purpose behind all we do, the reason we continue on, the prize at the end of our race… What is to come.
All of us are in His all-knowing, all-powerful hands. We must take the time to be intentional in our study of the Bible, to know Jesus & praise Him for the freedom to do so.
We must seek & love the Lord with all of our hearts & souls. We must endeavor to build our homes & raise our children on His truths.

What a great way to stay close to the true spirit of Christmas!
This is such a good idea. A friend is loaning me Jotham’s Journey this year to start with my boys.
I would like to get my mother some kitchen equipment this year. She has done without much for so long, I think she deserves something nice.
To a Christian, the word “advent” signals the coming of a special remembrance concerning God. Though we should always be “ready”, daily life has a way of highjacking moments we have set aside to be at the Lord’s feet. By purposefully preparing our thoughts, hearts and spiritual walk as we head towards a holy celebration, the advent weeks help us peel away the worldly fog that covers the clarity of our soul. Then, and only then, can we feel the fullness of that celebration and offer up right reverence toward what it stands for.
I always seem to be busy around this month – even when, like this year, we aren’t actually buying a bunch of presents but only for our kiddos and some stocking stuffers. I’m only beginning to delve into what the Advent really is but I can’t wait to share it with my children.
We love Advent. It’s the time of year that I am the most focused on Christ.
If you read John 10; 22-42 you will find that JESUS declared that HE was the SON of GOD, HE told the people that :”I and MY FATHER are one. The people asked him if he was the Messiah on the first day of Channukkah and he said:
Joh 10:24 Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.
Joh 10:25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me.
Joh 10:26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.
Joh 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
Joh 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
Joh 10:29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.
Joh 10:30 I and my Father are one.
The other verses I mentioned give a picture of what was going on that 1st day of Channukkah and I think that was a fantastic find for me on the 1st day of Channukkah.
