From my earliest memories, I always felt such comfort when the Preacher said the Benediction over the Congregation at the end of the sermon. A blessing so meaningful and simple that even a child understood its importance and cherished its hope.
I always feel blessed by the Benediction being prayed over me. I believe that a covering of God’s grace is bestowed upon me through the Living Word – and everyone that is able to receive the blessing of the LORD!
Praying from scriptures brings me peace and comfort. Jesus gave us a prayer that is perfect when praying for ourselves, but what about when we pray for & over others?
That is where a Benediction, or a blessing, come in! Just as many in the Bible blessed others, so can we!
As I (silently) prayed a Benediction over my husband the other night, I thought that I should share a biblical word study of the word Benediction and a FREE printable with my favorite blessings from the Bible. I hope your family is blessed by it!
Benediction Definition:
BENEDIC’TION, noun [Latin benedictio, from bene, well, and dictio, speaking.]
1. The act of blessing; a giving praise to God or rendering thanks for his favors; a blessing pronounced; hence grace before and after meals.
2. Blessing, prayer, or kind wishes, uttered in favor of any person or thing; a solemn or affectionate invocation of happiness; thanks; expression of gratitude.
The Benediction, Blessing, Prayer for others…
When I personally think of The Benediction, I am thinking about the Blessing found in Numbers – what a beautiful and sincere prayer to say over God’s children! It is these Scriptures that I pray over my husband & children often.
“The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.” Numbers 6:24-26
When my own words falter and I can not think of what to ask from the Lord for my husband and children, the Benediction is perfect! There are several prayers/blessings throughout the Bible that can be prayed word-for-word as our own prayers (not to mention the Psalms!), but my two favorites are found in Numbers and Hebrews.
So, I used those Bible verses to create a printable scripture pack for you! You can print and use these as memory work, in your Bible study, or on your wall as purposeful decor.
They are the King James Version since that is the Bible I use (and it is free to use without purchasing a license). Simple and elegant, these printables are eye-pleasing, as well.
I hope you find these scriptures & prayers to be as dear to your heart as they have been to mine. I hope this inspires you to teach them to your children, pray them together, and search the Holy Bible for even more Benedictions!
