One of the best things about homeschooling is that it allows you to make memories with your children. You are with them all day, every day and that gives you the opportunity to make memories every day!
More than anything, your attitude and demeanor will be what your children remember. In most cases, even when specific events and activities are remembered, the atmosphere surrounding them will be recalled – for better or worst.
While I love suggesting activities to do with your child (and have a list of 50 ways to make memories with your children below), my ultimate hope and prayer is that you will cultivate a joyful heart and sincerely enjoy being with your children – whether or not you are happy about it every second of the day.
Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. Psalm 127:3
- Joy is based on an inner peace stemming from faith and trust in our Lord Jesus Christ, knowing that He is in control.
- Happiness is based on our circumstances and is an emotional experience, so it is just as easily replaced with other emotions such as anger, frustration, etc.
- Joy will help us remain calm and respond with love.
- In Christ joy can be present constantly, regardless of emotions.
- Without joy, we will be ruled by our emotions and react out of anger, etc.
- Let’s strive for joy in our homes, mamas!
… the joy of the Lord is your strength. Nehemiah 8:10
So, while intentionally engaging in activities with your children is good, it is even better if you provide them with a peaceful home where they feel secure – showing them an example of the love and care of their Heavenly Father. Show them that you find joy in being their mom and living for Jesus!
