I was hesitant to review the Sound Words for Kids: A Protestant Westminster Catechism Unit 1: All About God curriculum when invited by Tauna from Proverbial Homemaker since I’m quite selective when it comes to our Bible study resources. However, Tauna let me look over the curriculum beforehand and I discovered that it would work perfectly for us!

I received this product in exchange for an honest review back in 2015. However, I still recommend this Bible study curriculum from Tauna! She has expanded the curriculum and it now includes multiple units.

We typically use just the Bible or our Children’s Story Bibles to incorporate our Bible studies into each day. This school year, I have been desiring to find a simple, straightforward, and easy program to offer a little more focus and in-depth study, and Sound Words is all of those!

Sound Words For Kids Review

As a very busy mama to 7 young children, I needed a curriculum that offered structure and guidance, creativity and ideas to make it engaging, but that also was flexible, not too time-consuming, not full of crafts I would never have time for and could be used with our Bible version of choice. I have found that Sound Words fits our needs nicely.

Sound Words for Kids: A Protestant Westminster Catechism is a theology-based curriculum aimed to teach Christian doctrine to kids in Pre-K – 2 grades.
I found it to be engaging and helpful for myself and all of my kids including my oldest who will turn 10 this month.
It is a catechism in the way it is set up, with questions and answers. (definition of the word catechism)
It is “Protestant” in the sense that it is not Catholic.

Each lesson in Unit 1: All About God asks the following questions

Who is God? Who Made God?
Has God Ever Had A Beginning?
Will God Ever Die?
Are There More gods Than 1?
In How Many Persons Does This 1 God Exist?
Who Are The Persons Of God?
Where Is God?
Can You See God?
Does God Know All Things?
Can God Do All Things?

Each week you address one question, answer the question (answers provided, but you can use your own words and scripture, of course), and spend time reading from the Scripture, doing copywork (printables available in both primary and elementary lined options), completing notebooking pages, and doing a very simple, yet fun craft project that helps reinforce the teachings.

A bonus is included that teaches 12 attributes of God!

It is suggested that you do the Attributes of God lessons first as an introduction to the unit study.

I am all about keeping things simple and easy. Pretty much everything in my life has been simplified as much as possible, to be as efficient and as productive as it can be in the least amount of time as possible. I am sure this is due to the strict schedule and diet I have to keep with my kids’ medical and allergy needs and how little extra time I have in a day to do much more than meet the needs of my kids.

My family’s spiritual health is very important and something we need to focus on daily.

Admittedly, I have used Sound Words in the simplest way possible;

reading it from my laptop
printing only the pages we need each day
not doing all of the games and activity suggestions.

It has been nice to start at the “beginning” and address the foundational facts of our faith. These are questions my kids ask already, so it has been fun for them to get to explore the answers and express their understanding.

I have found the Sound Words curriculum to be very easy to use and it works with our family’s limited time and resources. Most importantly, this Unit Study points to Jesus and makes it obvious that glorifying God in all things is our purpose in life!

I am excited to say that Sound Words for Kids: A Protestant Westminster Catechism Unit 1: All About God is worth checking out and using in your home for Bible Time.
