Year-end homeschool update. A look at how our year-round homeschool is going.
For us, our school year ends Thanksgiving week (or the week before), so the next couple of months are the final stretch! This is when I get myself re-organized and look over what I had hoped to complete for the school year and reevaluate what my expectations were/are.
I had hoped to zoom right through The Phonics Road to Spelling and Reading Level One with Josiah super quick, like a refresher course, then jump right into Level Two. Turns out, it is a lot meatier than I had thought and both Josiah and myself learned a lot! We only have a few lessons left to complete it, but I think I will fill in the remainder of the school year with unit studies, finishing the Essentials in Writing, and handwriting… rather than moving on to Level Two just yet.
I will continue working through Logic of English’s Rhythm of Handwriting with Hadassah at her own pace. (review for that coming on Friday!)
As I stated in an earlier post, we have not been thrilled with Math U See Beta, but are working our way through it. I think we are still on track to finish it by Thanksgiving. We are going through it quite quickly, doing two lessons a week.
That is really it for our formal schooling, but Josiah will watch Netflix programs (Science, History, Geography) about once a week, reads his science books at his own pace, reads YWAM biographies and historical fiction like crazy, and is always observing (catching) insects, snakes, and other outdoor fun stuff – all without any prompting from me. Lots of learning occurring, naturally! Also, we will be doing reviews as they come up. Lately we have been doing more book reviews, rather than curriculum. But, still a lot of fun!
